YOUR CHILD IS AFRAID OF SPEAKING PUBLIC?

In the family circle, the child is so lively: he fervently sings into an imaginary microphone, portrays the characters of his favorite cartoons. And with strangers it closes, hesitates to recite a memorized poem in front of the class. Why is this happening? How to help young talents overcome fear and feel confident in a circle of strangers?

Dear adults, to begin with, answer honestly: Does public speaking cause you any discomfort? It is possible that yes. There are two reasons: lack of skill and panic fear. The more often you practice this, the better it turns out, but fear must be learned to overcome.

Fear of public speaking is an absolutely normal phenomenon that often makes its own life adjustments. Fear of mistakes in front of strangers can haunt a person throughout his life, if you do not do in time a thorough analysis of the causes of emerging fear and their further eradication.

To determine the presence of such a fear in a child is quite easy – ask him to read a poem or play a pre-learned piece in front of guests and relatives on a musical instrument. Trembling in the voice and knees, running eyes, words flying out of my head, stoop – signs that can lead to the following conclusion – your child is afraid to speak.

WHERE DO THE FEAR OF PUBLIC PERFORMANCES COME FROM?
The best way to deal with the fear of public speaking is to identify the causes of fear and eliminate them whenever possible. The roots of this problem most often go back to childhood, namely, in relationships with parents and peers. Confidence on the stage will require internal self-confidence, a healthy egoism and a desire to share your point of view. Therefore, in the process of education, it is necessary to take into account the strength and consequences of parental attitudes, which can make the greatest speaker out of a child. Or vice versa – to push his personality into too narrow a framework.

A child who is constantly pressured by the authority of parental opinion will not be able to form his own point of view. And the lack of support from the parents will not allow him to express this point of view. In this regard, if you want your child not to be shy about the public, talk to him, analyze what is happening in life. Let him develop his vision of the world. Invite friends to visit, develop your son or daughter socially. This may be a visit to a circle or section. The main thing is that the child makes contact with people around him. To cultivate self-confidence, a hobby will help, that is, that area of life in which the child will do something better than the rest. All together – communication skills, self-confidence, participation in social events and the ability to analyze the situation – will create a good basis for further advancement in the art of rhetoric and public speaking.

REASONS FOR FEAR IN CHILDREN
In addition to the influence of parental attitudes, the cause of fear can be “bullying” or bullying in schools, in the yard. They also strongly influence self-confidence, as well as parental attitudes. And sometimes the influence of the court exceeds everything that happens in the family, squeezing the character of the child in the direction of his own isolation.

Another reason that the child is afraid of the scene may be speech defects and general unpreparedness for speaking. Stuttering, dyslalia, aphonia and other speech deficiencies can greatly affect a child who, comparing himself with his peers, will erroneously come to the conclusion that he is wrong. The main mistake of parents is predicting rhetorical failure for a child who has problems with the speech apparatus. To avoid such situations, parents need to strengthen the child’s self-confidence, reinforcing it with their support and general activities with a speech therapist.

The next problem is unpreparedness for a performance or for competitions. It seems obvious, but if the child already has a negative experience in public speaking due to the lack of thorough preparation, then this can become a problem. In the future, this can undermine confidence in their abilities. Always start preparing for a speech in advance, based on the rule that a five-minute presentation requires a minimum of three hours of preparation.
